From concept to delivery of our wild flower roof, it's been a pleasure. I've found the team to be professional with excellent communication through-out the project. The final product looks fantastic and fits into the environment perfectly. We've no hesitation in recommending Organic Roofs. Thanks for a wonderful job!Melanie - our client | Milton Keynes
We began working with our client and her project manager at design stage, and applied a lot of the innovations we developed on the Boathouse and Bounds Green commercial pitched roofs for this ambitious domestic self-build.
Install
Our part of the project comprised four pitched green roofs which we waterproofed in single-sheet Hertalan EPDM, perimeter-adhered and mechanically fixed with our proprietary anti-subsidence device. The standard aluminium edging was given a unique twist with powder coating to match the windows and skylight frame, and black pebbles were sourced locally to give a particularly architectural feel to the eaves.
The results were dramatic, and the house – which overlooks a fishing lake complex near Milton Keynes, later featured on Sarah Beeney’s ‘How to Live Debt-Free’ property development series.
Planting
The planting was pre-grown wildflower turf over non-degradable bags from Wildflower Turf (WT), who recommended us to the client for this project. We’ve worked with WT on multiple projects and cant speak highly enough of their expertise and consistent quality. The roof was fully irrigated and because it was overlooked when our clients left for a summer break, the plants grew like nothing we’ve ever seen on a roof!
