Lee and his team are extremely knowledgeable and easily sorted out the revival of our sedum roof installed by others. The Maintenance Report they produced was very useful and we will be using them again to care for our green roof next year.Lynda | Client
We originally quoted to install this green roof but the chosen contractor perhaps inadvertently used less than the recommended amount of substrate for a living roof of this kind. Given the exposed location and south facing aspect, we normally suggest that for Brighton green roofs, and others on the coastline, the specification needs to account for not just the usual exposure to the sun but also to the desiccating effects of the coastal wind.
This means really good substrate at a depth equal to or ideally exceeding the national GRO Code. In this case that should have been 60mm or so.
To revive this roof we added a nourishing organic slow release fertiliser and installed a temporary irrigation system. Monitoring the results, we were please to find just a few months later the roof doing much better, with some of the sedum species that had died right back beginning to recover.
We now have a maintenance contract with our client and we can continue to monitor to see if we need to extend the intervention to include additional substrate and perhaps permanent irrigation.
